Lemon oil on an open-pore guitar?

Would you lot use any kind of oil or polish on an open-pore guitar? I but picked up one of these inexpensive acoustics for playing at home

I would examine the reasons why wood would need to be oiled:

1) So dry out information technology's I danger of splitting or bang-up.
2) Shrinkage causing frets to poke out.

#1 isn't likely on a properly built guitar, and if it were I wouldn't purchase that guitar. #2 would better be addressed with proper humidification.

I wouldn't oil any fretboard. None of these oils are residue-complimentary and will go out behind gunk in the pores and adjacent to the frets. I really believe that people do information technology either considering they similar how oiled woods looks or they believe the fretboard really needs it to remain stable.

Woods is pretty stable after it's dried to its proper ratio of cloth to water, which is what, something like 7%? I don't know myself for sure, I've seen that number mentioned by Dana Bourgeois.

Bottomline: fretboards don't need oil, and the oil evaporates over time and leaves crap behind.

aye, and also i'm pretty confident that ibanez nonetheless has a waterproof poly terminate over all of information technology except the fretboard, "open pore" artful or non.

I idea open pore was just the lack of pore-filler prior to elevation cease. I wouldn't oil annihilation but a rosewood fretboard, and then rarely and sparingly. Too, lemon oil is just mineral oil with lemon odor. I'd leave it alone and enjoy the low-maintenance finish.

This guitar has an ovangkol fretboard which is very like to rosewood. Superlative back and sides are Okoume which i believe is African mahogany.

bought the aforementioned guitar from sweetwater during the pandemic...and have the same question. concerned with the oils from my hands and artillery getting captivated into the forest over time. I'thousand certain the wood is sealed in some way just sealer eventually fades...

non certain about using a mildly damp microfiber cloth with no stitching and accept but been using a dry one to absorb oils and keep it dust-costless.

would love to know what the pro's suggest.

don't fifty-fifty worry nearly it

regular guitar polish on a regular guitar polishing cloth, or fifty-fifty a bit of tap water on a soft paper towel to make clean it off in general; it'll be fine

I think we need to pause this down.

Lemon oil (which is actually a lemon scented mineral oil) is a bulwark layer you put on the top of a surface. The thing to lookout for with the Faith (and really any satin finish) is that any cleaner that has an abrasive in it (foam of carnuba for example) volition literally shine the satin, loading you lot with sleeky patches where you applied elbow grease.
